Bah Humbug

Bah humbug is kind of how I felt about Halloween this year, but I did make some effort.  At least the dozen trick or treaters we had made off with a nice, contact free, candy haul because I'm not a scrooge.  And even though I didn't go all out this year, I refuse to put away my decorations until I'm good and ready because they bring joy to my cold black heart.

I'm slowly working towards a metal punk vibe.  The punk vulture has been around awhile, as has the spiked pumpkin, but the coffin guitar case, newly acquired this year, kind of cinched it.  That was really when the other skeletons started talking about getting a band together.  My frogs aren't done...yet. But at least I managed to finish their hair so they are presentable.  Froggy Rotten is sporting the red mop and Phib Vicious has the green hawk.

I have a few projects to post about that are pictured and a few just out of view.  This year has been a lot of home improvement projects, but I have been squeaking in some time to knock a few creepy projects off my list.

And now all the Turkey Day decorations are up...so I guess I'm set until Creepmas.

Punk Skeleton Vulture

Punks Not Dead, well maybe a little decomposed.
If you've been following along, after the craft party I meant to make a punk skeleton and ended up going glam rock.  Not to be denied my desire for punk and bones I channeled all that energy on this guy.

Here he is before his transformation, which consisted mainly of
tissue paper, paint, feathers, a few beads and pieces of an old belt.

This is from behind obviously.

And here he is with a pumpkin I got on sale at the beginning of October,
which probably has a lot to do with my mindset this season.

Andean Condor Gastric Acid

Prior to creating this label, I hadn't really thought about vultures.  They are just fuggly looking birds that eat dead stuff and show up in old westerns, right?

They are so much cooler than that, everything about their design has purpose.  Most of it's disgusting, but it's all very fascinating. I've also decided that vultures can be beautiful, cute even.

I picked the Andean Condor from the New World vulture family because with it's 10 foot wingspan it's a huge bird, so I figure it should have lots of gastric acid to share.

If you'd like to learn some interesting stuff about vultures, here are a couple of sources that are as entertaining as they are enlightening.

There is some great information on New World Vultures at Real Monstrosities.

And this awesome video about vulture fluids from SciShow.

The label is short and sweet.  MS Office clip art and Freebooter font by GemFonts.

Since my bottle is opaque I didn't have to worry about contents, but if I were in mind to make some gastric acid.  I would mix a little pale yellow acrylic paint, with a touch of olive green and blend that into some floral water and pour it very slowly to get lots of tiny bubbles.

Here's a label if you'd like to make your own bottle of acid.
